If you grew up in the 1980’s and enjoy this website, I’m willing to bet your bedroom looked similar to mine. There were probably sports posters all over the walls, a Nerf hoop, and for some lucky ones, a Nintendo system. My friend down the street had a t.v. in his bedroom and when we were finished playing sports outside, we went inside for heated games of R.B.I. Baseball and Tecmo Bowl. This was a time when we were totally obsessed with sneakers, sports, and Yo! MTV Raps. This was a time before the Internet, when if you wanted to look at sneakers all day you had to Fun-Tak pictures to your bedroom walls. Magazine ads like what I post here and posters from Sports Illustrated, Starline, Costacos and Nike were all over our walls as we dreamed up new dunks for backyard slam dunk contests.
Here we have a gallery of posters from Bill Sumner. I came across his website while researching whether a white Ferrari Testarosa from a 1987 PONY advertisement was a rental or actually belonged to Dan Marino. This is what I think about in the middle of the night sometimes, but it lead me to this gold mine. This gallery is all stuff from his website, although I believe that some of the Nike Baseball posters on the timeline and classic Basketball posters of the Air Force One crew might have also been shot my him. I emailed him last week to confirm, but haven’t heard back. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to ask him some questions. These posters seem to range in date from 1986-1990.
